To SquareSpace, or Not to SquareSpace…
by Brian on Mar.21, 2009, under Uncategorized
Okay, so I am playing around with SquareSpace, mainly because it seems the entire wired community is flocking there in droves (and as I have mentioned on this blog, I am a sucker for good branding and marketing by word-of-mouth.) I set up a test site at woodsland.squarespace.com to play around in the sandbox, and I don’t know. My CSS isn’t up to the latest snuff, and so my natural instinct to completely customize everything is somewhat inhibited. Maybe I need to get the latest CSS standard and start reading (yeah, or else just watch something on TV and forget about it.) Their blog setup really was super easy, but then so is Wordpress.
I have a natural instinct to just tear things apart to see how they work, and then recreate them in my head for best possible efficiency (at least my perception of best possible efficiency.) I have an obsessive personality, and these type of things are the hooks that trap me until I have a much better understanding (and comfort) of how they work. And then I move on to my next obsession.
Eventually they end (kinda like Battlestar Galactica ended last night, and now I have no Friday bookmark in my life that says “ooooh, Fridays get here now!”) But there is always a replacement. Always.
So, while I contemplate whether SquareSpace will be my next mental investment, here’s hoping that all of you find an obsession that taunts you, at least for a little while. Because once they have you, they ain’t never gonna let go.
